Year 1 & Year 2

Mrs Dalby-Bellis and Mrs Leighton are the class teachers in Year 1 and 2.  They are supported in class by Mrs Waterworth and Mrs Mahon.

In Year 1 and 2 the children work hard and also have lots of fun!

In Science we thought about what people need to be able to survive. Next we thought about social and emotional needs before sharing what ‘treasure’ means to us. We imagined being stranded on an island. Next the children drew and wrote messages in a bottle of what they needed.

Wow- there was a beanstalk growing up the door this morning! We wrote predictions about where it was going, how it got there, why it was here and who might climb it and why.

Designing and making dips.

We learnt about Sir Francis Beaufort and the Beaufort scale for measuring windspeed before constructing windsocks.

Using ICT to practise our calculation skills in Maths and create multi-layered rhythms in ICT.

Homework

  • We expect children to read at least 3/4 times a week at home but encourage daily reading wherever possible. The children may gain a bronze, silver, gold or platinum award each week for their reading at home as well as merits. Each house team has the chance to win an extra playtime for having the most gold and platinum readers across each half term. The children are excited to hear which team is in the lead each week in Celebration Assembly.
  • Spellings are sent home each Friday and checked the following Friday. These are based on the sound(year 1) or spelling pattern(year 2) the children are learning in school that week. We give merits for improving a score as well as spelling all words correctly.
  • 10 minutes of Numbots practise a week, year 2 children should use Times Table Rockstars. Certificates are awarded in our weekly Celebration Assembly.
