OUR VISION:

It is our intention that our RE curriculum offer is bespoke for our school.  Our vision is to equip our pupils with key skills, knowledge and vocabulary.  Once suitably equipped we aim to embed this through a challenging curriculum delivered through high quality teaching and learning opportunities. Furthermore, it is our intent to provide our pupils with a rich and broad cultural capital through purposeful enrichment opportunities to achieve excellence for all so they can successfully engage with their local and global communities. 

We follow the Diocesan agreed curriculum using the Understanding Christianity resource and The Diocese of Peterborough Syllabus 2019-2024.  In this spiral curriculum, key skills and knowledge are revisited and built upon within each year and across key stage phases. Sequences of lessons are planned using progression mapping within and across key stage phases. Carefully considered key questions inspire active learning and challenge for all. Opportunities for cross-curricular learning are identified in our medium term plans, for example writing, reading, maths, history and geography. 

Pupils explore abstract concepts and apply their thinking to the wider world promoting tolerance and celebrating diversity in a context that is relevant to them.  The agreed syllabus requires that all pupils learn from Christianity in each key stage, our curriculum maps show progression through the different year groups. In addition to Christianity our children learn from other world religions.

In EYFS, teaching and learning is based around the children developing a sense of awareness of self, their own community and their place within this. Children will encounter Christianity and other faiths throughout the world. In KS1, children study Christianity, Judaism and Islam. In KS2, children study Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism and Judaism.

Within our RE teaching and learning we make connections with Fundamental British Values, cultural capital, our global community, our local community and a respect for all. We also ensure RE teaching within our school supports the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  The diocesan curriculum and quality teaching provides many opportunities for RE teaching and learning to challenge stereotypical views and to appreciate difference positively whilst recognising similarities between different cultures and religions and making these links. To help us achieve this we celebrate a variety of festivals and special days, which are significant to many cultures and religions.

Progression is mapped out across year groups from EYFS through to year 6.

Through our RE curriculum, it is our intent that our children:

• have a passion for RE and a sense of curiosity to investigate different religions.
• have an excellent knowledge of other religions. 
• understand and embrace diversity.

• are able to live in a country which is diverse in terms of cultures, religions and beliefs.
• recognise anti-social behaviour such as racism and develop strategies to deal with it.
• can promote multicultural understanding and respect for all.
• understand how one religion has influenced the development of another.
• are well-rounded spiritually, morally, socially and culturally
